Stripes

This is a very quick post because I'm going to my little brothers party very soon. Later on we are gonna hit the local indie club. I'm wearing this cute little stripe dress I got from Ranna in our dress swap. Isn't it pretty?

It's just one of those days

Do you ever feel like on some days are just against you? Like when there is nothing wearable in your closet, or when your favorite jeans don't seem to fit like they did before summer? Well, I had one of those days today but at least my hair co-operated. I want to introduce my new fall jacket which I got from Helsinki a few weeks back after attending Flow festival. It's by H&M Trend and I instantly fell in love with the fact that it has a hoodie. What could provide better coverage for your hair on cold and rainy days? The jacket is made really well and the little details on the sleeves make it look more outstanding compared to a basic black coat.

Oh, and I changed the layout a bit because I was getting tired of the old fuzzy banner pic, and the fact that my pictures were so small. I'm quite pleased with the new look, what do you think?

All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey

I have officially kissed the summer goodbye here in Finland. The leaves are changing colors from green to yellow and falling off the trees. Since when did autumn come in August?

Although I would have wanted summer to last just a wee bit longer, autumn does have its upside: The fashion. Fall/winter collections are always much more inspiring than its predecessor spring/summer season. One of my fall favorites is Burberry Prorsum's pre-fall collection. I love how they mixed knee length dresses with heavy layering, making the outfits look warm yet chic.

Due to the sudden drop of temperature, yesterday's outfit was inspired by the Burberry look. When it gets colder, all it needs is a jacket on top, some mittens and thicker tights or stockings.

I went to look for a fedora style hat from H&M but ended up buying this horse riding inspired wool hat. When I came home, I realized I unconsciously had Burberry Prorsum in mind while shopping.

Back to black

Some of you might be aware that I write shopping tips as a freelancer "style agent" for a Finnish website called Tyylitaivas. We were asked to pick the top products of the fall from their partner Ellos which is a Swedish based online store. For my entry, I decided to make a collage of all the things I have personally on my wish list from Ellos. Since the collage ended up looking pretty cool, and it took my time and effort to create it, I thought I'd post it here as well. It's my first collage on this blog, let me know what you think. In the future I will tag collages with "wishlist".

The collage actually inspired me so much, that I wanted to create an outfit from my own closet with the same "theme". Fall is here, at it's back to black, folks.

Later on in the day my boyfriend and I went out to eat some Indian food and I changed the shoes to my cherry bon bons to give the outfit a splash of color. Can't be that dark all the time, right?

Cherry crush

Remember when I was debating whether or not to get these red shoes? Well the debate is over since it seems that a -10% discount was a valid enough reason for me to go ahead and purchase them, no questions asked. I named them my cherry bon bons because they look so deliciously cherry red that you just wanna eat them up.

Of course, when it stopped raining cats and dogs (and we actually had sun shine for a whole one hour), I had to go test drive them. Aren't they the prettiest thing?

Toxic girl

I'm not a huge fan of festivals. Large crowds make me uneasy and there are always stupid drunken people ruining your experience by splashing beer on you or pushing through the masses with angry fists. In spite of my detest, I did attend Friday's Flow festival in Helsinki, and I'm really glad I did! Seeing Kings of Convenience play live was mind blowing and Erlend Oye was exactly how I pictured him to be, geeky yet cute. Also, I was once again spotted by a reader who wanted to say hi which was a really sweet gesture, but how on earth do people spot me in the huge masses is a mystery.

I decided to wear something that I could easily turn into a warm outfit for the night time. One of my missions in Stockholm was to find a pair of acid washed jeans. I saw the jeans back in January but for some reason I didn't get them then. After seeing them on Agathe from Stylebytes a few months later, I really regretted my decision to leave them behind. This time I just had to get them, no matter what. So, here they are, my new acid washed jeans.

I did not actually wear the wedge platform shoes at the festival but I did wear them to go shopping on Saturday. So if anyone was walking the streets of Helsinki, you could have spotted me in this very outfit topped with a black "avant garde" rain cape which I will introduce sometime later. I swore I wouldn't buy anymore clothes since I blew the budget in Stockholm, but I did end up getting a Martin Margiela shirt (on discount) and some H&M Trend pieces, such as a new fall coat.

Oh and I'm sure most of you have already seen these but I just can't be more excited about the first looks of Comme des Carcons for H&M!

Boy about town

So if you have been wondering about my absence with this blog, its due to my laptop; it had crashed and I really didn't have the energy or patience to upload pictures on my incredibly slow PC at home. Now that the laptop is up and running, I can finally blog again!

Last Saturday I attended my friend's b-day party in the outfit pictured below. It has a touch of androgyny, therefore today's blog title is from the lyrics of the Jam song.

Shirt: Second hand
Pants: Monki
Shoes: Skopunkten

I have not worn this shirt in ages since it went missing at my parent's place for quit awhile. It's a pitty that it was in hiding, considering it has such an unique look and cut to it. My boyfriend always tells me that it looks like a 60's sci-fi space shirt, I guess I can see the resembelence in that. The shirt was only a few dollars from a local Goodwill in California and it's made of silk. The pants are the same grandpa pants as in my last entry, but in black.

On Sunday the local young designers boutique called Super Mukava organized a Design Market at a square that is located at the "French quarter of Tampere". A few stores were selling their samples and old stock items, and Super Mukava also put up a fashion show. Since I live on this street and it was within seconds of a walk, I went to see what it was all about and ended up buying a pair of second hand shoes.

Tomorrow I'm going to the Flow festival to see Kings of Convenience. I've been dreaming of this day for such a long time and now I finally get to see them play live (and the ever so cute Erlend Oye).

Bat Girl vs. Annie Hall

On Monday my boyfriend and I went out to a restaurant for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. For this special occasion I wore my latest love, the grandpa pants. Everything on me is new and from Stockholm; the bat sleeved zipper collar shirt, the shoes and purple tights. I've been looking for purple tights forever and I was so happy to finally find a pair. Later on it got so cold that I wore my boyfriend's brown cardigan giving it the Annie Hall look (I'm the biggest Woody Allen fan ever!).

Speaking of bat sleeves, yesterday I went to see the new Batman movie and I must say I really enjoyed it. I was so tense sitting in my seat that I kept munching popcorn like crazy throughout the whole movie. Heath Ledger as the Joker was awesome, its a pity that such a talented actor died so suddenly.
P.S. I assured my boyfriend that I won't get these shoes pictured below if I find a decent pair of shoes from Stockholm. Well, now that I'm four new pairs richer after the trip, I'm still lusting over these red-a-licious ankle boots. Please give me a good enough reason why I should not get them...?!? They are the most adorable pair I have seen in awhile, and yes, I don't normally even like the color red!

The streets are always there for us

I'm back from Stockholm alive and with no intentions to disappear from the blogosphere (as the trend might be at the moment). The discounts were unbelievable and I have literally 6 huge bags stuffed with new clothes! Almost everything was -75 % off so you can imagine how crazy it was. I think I went a little too deep into the discount craze but at least I now have new clothes and shoes for next year (well, at least until the next discount season). I mainly went for the Swedish fashion and the color black made a return to my closet for this fall. I will introduce more of my findings in later posts.

The first day I wore a second hand dress that I found from the Salvation Army near my parent's place. The hem line used to be down to my ankles but with a little help from my 70's sewing machine, I shortened the dress to give it a more sexy look. I can't recall the last time I wore anything bright red because I never really wear red. However, for some reason I felt really confident wearing this outfit. I believe its due to the color; it's so strange how colors can affect your mood.

Stockholm is filled with sushi places.

While in Stockholm and shopping, we went to see Europride 2008. Last year it was just Stockholm Pride but this year all of Europe was celebrating in Stockholm. I wore one of my purchases, cropped grandpa pants with a paper bag waist. I had them on pretty much every day after getting them, that's how comfortable they are.

As for the trends in Stockholm, a lot of girls wore really skimpy dresses that were a bit too short for my taste. Also huge shirts with rolled sleeves and without any tights or leggings were a big hit. Everyone was super tanned and so summery. I also made an observation that all the cool hipster kids tend to like good music, as the club Debaser was full of them on Saturday night. In fact, it must be one of the best indie clubs I have ever been in. Unfortunately I was not able to take my camera in my purse, so there are no shots of the party outfit, sorry.

After this mini holiday its time to get back to work, although it seems that while I was gone my work laptop crashed. I hope that all the precious photos that I had on it are not gone with the wind...

P.S. Awhile back I was asked by the Fashion Spot community to give a little interview about my style and provide some outfit pics for the "What are you wearing today" section. I took me like two months to actually act on the request and now the interview is finally up. I, amongst likes of Susie Bubble and Rumi, have done this, so I truly appreciate this opportunity. You can find the interview and pics here.
