Hot in the city

I've been practically forced to abandon the blog, due to the fact that this week has been extremely busy with running erands. During the weekend we were blessed with hot temperature, so sitting in the park and meeting up with friends seemed much more interesting than staring at the computer screen in a hot apartment. This outfit is from last night and from today (just changed the shirt). I've finally digged out some of my other summer shoes; as much I love the Bronx sandals, you can't wear them all of the time. These grey jazz shoes are extremely comfy and perfect for dressing down my otherwise dressy outfit. Hope you all had a good and warm weekend!

Feet on the ground, head in the sky

This weekend has been quite sunny, encouraging me to take walks, eat Italian ice cream, meet up with friends and go rollerblading with my boyfriend. The latter I started as a part of my exercice routine, as I'm planning on being in some sort of beach shape before the Barcelona trip in June. I've noticed that exercicing for me is possible only when its a.) fun, and b.) there is a definite short term target. Rollerblading and the Barcelona trip kind of fill these requirements.

The outfit below is from Saturday and is my way of saying: welcome summer or rather, welcome Finnish summer. If only one day it would be hot enough to wear just shorts and a t-shirt, cause I really miss those guys. Notice also the new picture taking tactics with my new found skills to hover!

Oh God it's raining and I'm not complaining, it's filling me up with new life

Finnish weather is really strange. When I left to the movie theatres today to watch Angels & Demons with my boyfriend, it was sunny. When we stepped out of the movies a couple of hours later, it was hailing and thundering. Now the firemen are emptying out some water which apparently leaked inside the basement of our apartment building. Damn you global warming! Actually, I do enjoy the rain sometimes, my hair just doesn't.

Wallflower

I haven't been able to tolerate pink since kindergarten but there is something intriguing about the powder pink shades this spring. Hence, it's no wonder I've been eyeing on this light pink top with petal shoulders since it hit the Selected store in early spring. I was actually waiting for it to go on discount, and as I noticed it hanging on the sale racks due to being the last piece of the collection, I just had to grab it. Funny enough, I had ordered a very similar themed skirt from Nelly.com (with the gift card we got from the blog party) and of course had to see how these two would go together. While partying in this outfit on Saturday, I felt a bit like a fairy with all the petal action going on. Naturally, I couldn't go out without adding a splash of masculinity into the look, so the studded cuff and short hairdo were almost de rigueur.

Dark shadows and bright lights

My official photographer, a.k.a. boyfriend, has inherited the spring flu from me, meaning photographing is now my and the Gorillapod's responsibility for the next couple of days. Therefore the strange photos; although it was fun playing with the camera and the sunlight. Frankly, I haven't worn anything really exciting since Saturday, just some clothes I've been able to grasp from my closet during the five minutes I have time each morning to get dressed for work. The red lace-ups have played a major role in my outfits lately and let me tell you, they are really growing on me by every footstep. I've also worn the same hairdo since Saturday but tonight these crazy curls will be washed away because I started to feel like some weird hybrid between Jayne Eyre and the characters from Edgar Allan Poe's work. Then again, that sounds like a pretty cool combination, eh?

It was a Saturday night, I guess it makes it all right

I'm coughing like a madman and my voice is rather raspy but I've convinced myself that it just adds a sexy note to my presence. Nothing's gonna stop me from having a good night tonight, dancing the night away with amazing 80's tunes and seeing some good friends. Whom, by the way, should arrive any minute now.

The outfit for the night is somewhat inspired by the 80's as well, as I'm wearing a power suit-ish dress that I got in a dress swap from Ranna (she got my Rodebjer dress), vintage lace gloves and a my favorite hat. I must say, I'm in love with this Minimarket dress and it's funky diamond cut. Can I wear this every day, can I, can I???

Oh, and dear DJs at Club Vintage, please play some Prince for moi tonight. He is so freaking hot that he knocks my socks, I mean tights, off!

Enjoy your weekend, lovelies!

Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dream; red gold and green, red gold and green

It's pretty much summer outside and I have to wear heavy gear due to a flu that seems to stick like glue (hey, it rhymes!). For some unknown reason, the outfit of today has very autumnish colors; I guess being sick has slowed me down from changing into the spring mode. Maybe I'm just rebeling until the last moment, since spring fashion has never been a true favorite of mine. However, I am craving more light colors into my wardrobe, indicating that some brainwashing has happend while browsing through a bunch of fashion magazines and their spring editorials. Being sick has its upsides too: plenty of free time which you can devote just for the world of fashion.

Welcome back, flannel shirt

Spring flu caught me during the weekend and has forced me to stay at home resting, drinking tea and taking vitamin C like crazy. All I've been wearing is this flannel shirt I picked up during the weekend for a bargain price of 3.95€ from a place where I used to get all my flannel shirts back in the early nineties. Circa 1994 all my outfits used to consist of Levi's 501's, combat boots and different colored flannel shirts. In my cd player the Cranberries, Nirvana, and the Smashing Pumpkins were played on repeat, in order to learn the lyrics by heart just in case I'd make it to their concert one day. Oh those days!

Thinking about the essence of a flannel shirt, it is actually very comfortable, versatile, and an unisex piece of clothing. Wearing it I don't have to think about any of the pressures of having a perfect body. Actually, I'm not even wanting to look sexy, I'm just plain old me. I can move and breathe freely, not having to worry about getting dirt on my shirt or getting soaked in the rain: the flannel shirt protects me from the big bad world. If you haven't heard it yet, just look at fashion icons like Alice Dellal or the Olsen twins as they all know it: grunge is back. And it makes me extremely happy - in the nostalgia kind of way.

Mayday

This three day weekend has kept me so busy that I haven't been able to post anything in ages. You'd think that it would be a perfect time just to relax but no no, not me. Partying, hanging out with friends and painting a deck at my mom's place has kept me busy as a bee. On Thursday night we headed to our dear capital city Helsinki for the Vappu festivities (1st of May is a labor day here and an official day off) and since I didn't have too much time to think about the outfit of the night, I went with an easy all-in-one solution: a grey I <3> American Retro shortsuit.
I figured the shortsuit would be the perfect choice for the evening since on Vappu people tend to dress up in costumes and the students of different student associations wear a variety of overalls. The shortsuit combined the best of both worlds. I had a fun night in the capital city but I still have to say the clubs in my hometown Tampere beat the ones in Helsinki - anytime. And yes, I'm a very picky person when it comes to clubs and music.
