Good things come in fours

What a hectic weekend! The whole week I have tried to keep my hands out of the discount sales but I could no longer restrain myself (what's new). I did some shopping on Friday and Saturday in Tampere and surprisingly found a skirt, couple of tank tops and a sleeveless sweater. The tank tops are from the men's department so my boyfriend and I can both wear them. We got the tanks in black and white because quality tops like this should come in every color. Naturally, I had to wear my purchases at Saturday's indie disco and I have to say, I'm totally in love with the puffy floral skirt, I feel like I want to wear it with everything!

Floral skirt: H&M
Black men's top with pocket: Vailent
Shoes: Björn Borg
Headband: Gina Tricot

Belt: Second hand

The girls and I had some photos taken at the club. The picture was titled "Sex and the City", don't ask me why...

Many thanks to the girl who was nice enough to photograph us, the fashionable four!

P.S. This Wednesday Ranna and I are going to finally (!) have a photoshoot for our upcoming vintage store. Stay tuned for the pictures and more info...

Lie down in the light

I tend to always talk about going to shows and this entry is no exception. A great indie folk artist called Bonnie Prince Billy was performing at the local club, and of course we had to go check it out. Tickets were rather pricey - 17 Euros - but the show was well worth it. I wore my new favourite dress; A vintage piece from the 60's which I got in a dress-swap from the lovely Ranna a few weeks ago.

Dress: Vintage
Shoes: Second hand
Bag: Second hand

Headband: Gina Tricot

The Gossip Girl inspired headband is my latest purchase. I have seen similar on many of my fellow fashion bloggers but never got the chance to get one for myself. The white shoes are worn solely for the comfort factor, since standing for an hour in high heels is a killer for your back. And no, I am not trying to purposely advertise the Lidl store but it happened to be the only place with decent light at 11pm.

By the way, I just ordered the Canon Powershot G9 camera thanks to Ranna's recommendation. It cost only 270 Euros which is almost 200 Euros less than if I would have bought it here in Finland. It should be here in a week or so, yay! I'm sure the picture quality will be much better since lately I've been surviving with my 5 megapixel cell phone camera.

Cropped croppedy crop

Ugh, just as I had said yesterday that my inspiration was gone out the window and flushed in the rain, today it seemed as if the dreadful weather had taken a break. Finally there was some sunshine, and as I had a "home office" day (meaning I worked from home), I could actually dress in whatever my heart desired. I also visited my parents place and my boyfriend and I took some outfit pictures.

I have had these cropped black jeans in my closet for awhile now but this is the third time I am wearing them. I've been trying to save them since they are the only black jeans that have not faded and still look brand new. They are 30 inch length, so they crop right at my ankles. Today it was very windy, so I wore my beloved abstract Monki sweater over the tank top.

Sweater: Monki
White tank top: H&M
Abstract black top: Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair
Jeans: Cheap Monday
Sandals: X-IT, Dinsko
Wayfer necklace: Self-made

I'm gonna seriously do some sun dance if this cold weather won't end. Could some of my dear California friends send that heatwave this way, please? All my cute sun dresses are just hanging in the closet waiting to be worn. So I'm begging you, send us some sun and do it fast...

Not so sunny Tuesday afternoon

It has been raining now for the past few days and seems like it's not going to stop anytime soon. Due to the bad weather conditions, I have not worn anything special to be worth photographing. When I get home from work my hair is usually wet and my makeup is falling, so it's not a very pretty sight. With this greyness all my inspiration has gone out the window and got lost in the rain...Where are you sunshine, where are you summer? Oh this depression!

Due to lack of my own outfit photos, I am now introducing a new Swedish brand called Pudel. The designs are very similar to Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair with the abstract cuts and dark colors. I love how they are using black on their spring/summer collection, it's so Scandinavian of them. It is also rather cool that the boy in the pictures happens to be my friend from Stockholm. Way to go Jocke!

You can purchase the clothes online from here.

They came from the stars I saw them

Last night my boyfriend and I went to see a band called They Came From the Stars I Saw Them. Since today we are celebrating the Midsummer here in Finland and everyone is at their summer cottages, you could guess that the gig was not really full. The band had to "force" people to get closer and dance. It's a pitty since they put up a great show! Comparing this band to last weeks Zombie Zombie, TCFTSIST was much dancier and I could find myself stomping to the beat on most of the tracks. People say they could be the next Beta Band, which doest really surprise me, since they have similarities from the music genre to the band's all white outfits.

Since it was Thursday, I wanted to wear something between party and casual outfit, and here is what I came up with. We took some pictures in a tunnel on the way back home. As you may notice, when I got home I was taking pictures with the "Swedish pose", due to the fact that I was too tired after the show to put the camera on a higher stand...The white shoes were a great find from a local second hand store, totally new shoes just for 9€! I love the funky strap on them.

Now I'm leaving to my friend's summer cottage and will spend my Midsummer eve there. Will be back tomorrow. Have a great Midsummer everyone!

This city ain't so sexy

Dress: H&M
Belt: MTWTFSS
Bag: Second hand
Shoes: Small town shoe store (a bargain for 5€!)
Rose pin: Second hand

Yesterday I finally went too see the much talked Sex and the City movie with my boyfriend, Ranna and her boyfriend. It wasn't news to me that the movie got really bad reviews but I just couldn't believe how bad it actually was! The plot sucked, characters looked old and jokes just weren't as funny as they used to be in the show. The only good thing about the movie was the outfits (naturally) but the whole label mentioning was a bit too overwhelming for me. They could have also left out the corny montages and cut the movie's running time in half...

Anyway, above is what I wore to the movies. Yes, I was one of those people who just had to go with the theme, and even got my boyfriend to wear a suit type outfit. The stripey dress is actually a few years old but for some reason I never really wore it. When I bought it from H&M, I instantly thought of it as "Carrie Bradshaw" like dress and pictured her wearing it with a huge pink flower pin on the chest. So what could have been a better choice for the SATC movie than the dress from back then?

P.S. I had some trouble with uploading the pictures so they were a bit pixelated in my previous post. Now I learned to use the HTML-code instead and they look much clearer! The wonders of technology...

Midsummer Roses

Last Thursday I went to see a French band called Zombie Zombie on a local club here in my hometown. According to NME Magazene, the band was supposed to be one of the "top 10 must see" bands of the summer. Ok, we all know how NME is always exaggerating things and for example responsible of starting the whole "nu-rave" term/phenomena in its false forms (like how the heck are Klaxons nu-rave? Only because they started the whole term by fooling about not being new-wave to NME). Anyways, my point is, do not always trust what NME has to say. Zombie Zombie was ok but nothing THAT exceptional, sounded more like artsy experimental electro which was hard to dance to. And oh boy, do I love dancing!

My principles have always been not to wear the same exact outfit twice but this weekend I made a little exception. I wore almost the same outfit both to Zombie Zombie and Saturday's indie club. Here is what I wore for the gig. I don't know how I did it but somehow I manage to look as pale as zombie myself.

Top: Dior Homme S/S 06
Skirt: H&M Trend
Shoes: Logo 69
Bag: Second hand

So, on Saturday I had again my beloved Dior Homme note top from S/S 06 with a puffy H&M Trend skirt. Words can't describe how fond of this skirt I am! Seriously, I want to wear it like everyday. I have been looking a Miu Miu-estque style skirt was ages and when I found such from the Helsinki H&M I was so thrilled! At least it has been worth every penny so far. On my feet you can see the Nine West inspired Dinsko sandals with a little wedge heel. They have also been my favorites since I got them last week. While taking the pictures it was cold and raining but the fashion trooper I am, I went through with it without my jacket.

Rose pin: Second hand

I bought the rose pin from a local second hand shop on Saturday. It reminds me of these beautiful midsummer roses that are blossoming in my parents front yard.

Speaking of Midsummer, Midsummer's eve is on Friday here in Finland, and I'm going to a friend's cottage in the country side. Most likely it's going to rain but I would like to wear something cute and maybe floral for this festive and magical occation...

Start fresh

If you have pondered upon my new blog "Fashion Flux", it is probably because you were a reader of my old Finnish blog "Pikkumusta" or my English blog "Fashion Victim". Some of you may have found me through style forums such as "The Fashion Spot" or "Tyylitaivas". No matter how you found your way here, I would like to explain a little bit on why I decided to start a totally new blog.

When I first entered the world of blogging it was back in 2006. I started a little life blog about the parties and gigs I went to and it was called "World According to Anna-Maria" (...only after the great movie "World According to Garp"). Later I was introduced to fashion blogs and since I have always been a huge fashion fan, I decided to start one of my own called "Fashion Victim". I was blogging in English, however I was very new in the fashion blog world and my blog was sort of un-noticed for a long time. One month after I started my English blog, I stumbled upon blogs such as "Väärä Dikotomia" (now "Only Shallow") and "Nelliinan Vaatehuone" (all great blogs btw). It was obvious then that I should start writing in my mother tongue which is Finnish. Pikkumusta got lot more recognition and the discussion in the blog was very lively in Finnish. My blog even got noticed in magazines such as Trendi and one newspaper in Finland. I decided to put more effort into Pikkumusta since it was much more active. I completely stopped updating Fashion Victim since being torn between two blogs that I love doing, is very hard.

Then something happened: More and more people from other countries (than Finland) started visiting Pikkumusta and leaving me comments. I knew it was time for a change. So here I am, blogging in English, again, and I'm just loving it! I would like to think that this new blog is a love child of the two previous ones. However, with Fashion Flux I promise to deliver better pictures and give my full contribution to this blog, and only this blog.

In the end I would like to tell something about myself since some of you readers are not familiar with my two past blogs. I am currently 25, living in a city called Tampere in Finland, dating an American, working in the corporate world (as you probably seen from description) and I love love love fashion, clothes and traveling. This time around I am also blogging with my real name, Anna-Maria, as in the past I had a nickname "Fluxor". I kept the Flux part of the title of this blog since I grew very fond of this name, and it has a special meaning to me. For those of you, who have wondered where on earth does this nick come from, well in Finnish "flux" are the first three letters of my last name. I put "flux" in the an electronic dictionary and what came up as an example sentence was: "Fashion is in the state of flux". What could have been a better coincidence!?!

So welcome and hopefully you will enjoy this blog! :)

Love,
Anna-Maria
